BNN deploys 1,800 facilitators to boost grassroots anti-drug efforts

Indonesia’s National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has prepared 1,818 facilitators under its Prevention and Eradication of Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (P4GN) program to reinforce anti-drug initiatives at the village level.

BNN Main Secretary Tantan Sulistyana warned that drug abuse remains a “serious threat with multidimensional impacts,” citing the 2025 national prevalence survey which found the abuse rate had risen to 2.11 percent—equivalent to 4.15 million people.

“This situation has prompted BNN to continue strengthening P4GN services by preparing facilitators as the spearhead of the efforts within the community,” Sulistyana said in a statement confirmed in Jakarta

He acknowledged that the facilitator initiative is new and has yet to receive full budgetary support, but stressed that financial limitations must not hinder service delivery.

“All BNN personnel, as anti-drug advocates, must continue to innovate and provide the best P4GN services to the community,” he added.

BNN’s Human Resources Development Center Head Caca Syahroni explained that facilitators are being trained through a comprehensive curriculum covering prevention, community empowerment, rehabilitation, legal affairs, cooperation, and public services—including complaint handling and laboratory support.

The facilitators, drawn from BNN staff at central, provincial, district, and city levels, will be deployed nationwide.

“They are tasked with enhancing the effectiveness of programs and strengthening the reach of P4GN services in villages,” Syahroni said.

The initiative is expected to accelerate the Drug-Free Village program and raise public awareness of the dangers of narcotics, ensuring that prevention efforts reach communities most at risk.
