Mohamed Salah says he was very close to player Liverpool sold for £10m

Mohamed Salah has had the pleasure of working with some top-class talent since arriving at Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017.

The Egyptian, along with Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, played crucial roles in the Reds’ rapid rise in the Jurgen Klopp era.

Klopp has even gone as far as to claim that Liverpool’s former front three were ‘three of the best signings in the history of football‘.

While honing their craft at Anfield, Salah and Mane notched a joint-goal participation of 37 (the most the winger has with any player in his career), while Mane and the now 33-year-old combined 35 times.

However, despite the obvious connection the trio had on the pitch, Salah has recently stated he was very close to another former Liverpool man.

Mohamed Salah was very close to Dejan Lovren

Conor Bradley and the Reds forward sat down to answer quickfire questions in a video posted by Liverpool on TikTok in association with AXA.

Within the interview, Bradley said that Salah is the first person in training every single day.

Elsewhere, the duo were asked to name their ‘first laughs’ as Liverpool players.

Bradley picked Andy Robertson, while Salah named centre-back Dejan Lovren, saying he was very close to the Croatian.

He said: “Mine would be Dejan [Lovren] for sure. Since I came, me and Dejan have become very close. So, I think it would be Dejan involved in that.”

What does Dejan Lovren do now?

Lovren moved to Merseyside in the summer of 2014 after impressing with Southampton.

The stopper made 185 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool, scoring eight and assisting five.

He eventually left Anfield in July 2020, securing a move to Zenit St Petersburg for a fee of £10.9m [BBC].

After three years with the Russian outfit, Lovren joined Lyon, where he spent just one season.

The 36-year-old moved to Greek side PAOK Thessaloniki on a free transfer in 2024 and remains on their books to this day.

However, his stint with PAOK has so far been hampered by injury issues, which have limited him to 22 appearances, 13 of which have come in the current campaign.
