Man Utd loanee makes impressive debut with two assists after impressing Ruben Amorim
Optimism is finally building around Manchester United, a sentiment echoed by one of their loanees who recently delivered a remarkable display in his debut start for his new club.
Opportunities for young Red Devils were always going to be limited this season, given their absence from European competition and an early exit from the Carabao Cup.
Therefore, sending them out on loan was the most practical option. It was also an early test for Jonny Evans, who’s now overseeing the club’s loan moves in a more formal capacity.
One player already seems to be making an impression. He caught Ruben Amorim’s eye during pre-season and has now started well at his loan club.
Ethan Williams delivers on first start for Falkirk
Despite some early hope around Manchester United’s young players, competitive minutes have been hard to come by, with Ruben Amorim opting to stick with experience in the opening weeks.
That hope was largely tied to Ethan Williams, who made a strong impression during pre-season by scoring in a 4-1 win over Bournemouth. It was an eye-catching finish that came just a minute after he’d come off the bench.
With United bringing in Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha to fill forward roles, Williams went on loan to Scottish side Falkirk, looking for regular game time.
He has now started well at Falkirk, too. In his debut appearance, he set up both goals in a 2-2 draw against Hibernian and played 87 minutes.
According to FotMob, he also created three chances and took two shots in what was an impressive attacking performance overall.
The only negative moment came when he gave away a penalty early on. However, even then, he responded well with his assists.
Early days at Falkirk suggest loan move was the right call
Williams has just signed a new contract that runs until 2028, with an option for another year, so he has got time on his side to develop and make an impression at Old Trafford.
He does not need to force things now, and he can take his time progressing through these loan moves and using them as stepping stones.
His move to Falkirk marks an advancement from his time at Cheltenham last season, where he made a positive impact. Should things continue to progress well, a move to the Championship or League One could be the next step.
That’s the bigger picture. For now, his focus should stay on making the most of this loan spell and building on what’s already been a strong start
