Manchester United could land prolific Bundesliga attacker for £56million in January
Manchester United have been linked with a move for Harry Kane
The 2024/25 Premier League season was a nightmare for Manchester United. Finishing 15th in the league, losing the Europa League final to Spurs and missing out on Europe next season — it all felt like the club had lost their identity. Ruben Amorim took over the bench midway through the season, but the damage was already done
Now the club have acted swiftly in the summer. High-profile players like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have arrived at Old Trafford, and young Diogo Leon has also arrived. Most importantly, the club have also signed Benjamin Sesko to put behind Rasmus Hojlund’s failure last season.
Amidst all this commotion, another name is doing the rounds — Harry Kane. United are reportedly monitoring his Bayern Munich situation. There is a belief within the club that the English striker could be available next year as he has a release clause in his contract that will be active in 2026.
Pete O’Rourke has suggested in an interview with Football Insider that Kane would be worth £56 million in January, which could be a huge opportunity for United. Former scouts such as Mick Brown have also suggested that INEOS view Kane as a major target, and his dream of returning to the Premier League remains alive.
Goals guaranteed, but at what cost?
O’Rourke believes Kane is still ready to return to English football, particularly as he seeks to break Alan Shearer’s all-time goalscoring record. He said several clubs would be interested in his return to the Premier League. Getting the English striker for £56 million in January could be a lure for clubs, but his age — 33 next season — raises questions.
“Obviously if a player like Harry Kane is willing to come back to the Premier League, there will be clubs very much interested. The big question is which English club will be looking to bring him back to the Premier League?
“Obviously, he’s the second-highest goalscorer in the Premier League behind Alan Shearer, so that might be in his mind to come back and break that record.
“He’s got a release clause which decreases the closer it gets to the end of his Bayern Munich contract.
“So he could be available from January for around £56million, which would be a bargain for somebody like Harry Kane.
“The only negative is his age, he’s 32 now and will be 33 next season, will any of the elite clubs be willing to go out and sign him?
“If Harry Kane does become available next summer, there’ll be clubs that will be interested because he is guaranteed goals.
“Man United have consistently been linked with him, even in the last couple of seasons of his time at Tottenham before he moved to Bayern Munich.
“I’m sure that interest is still there because he has been a long-term target for them.
“Any move is a way away, there will be more talk about this from January onwards into next summer, but for now his focus is on Bayern Munich.”
Opinion on this matter:
As Manchester United fans, we have always been fans of Kane’s skills and his finishing. He has guaranteed goals in every league and has proven himself on big occasions. However, now that we have a young striker like Sesko and supporting players like Cunha and Mbeumo, bringing Kane in next year is a bit of a puzzle for me. At 33, he is bound to slow down, and the fast pace of Premier League football is a challenge for any ageing striker. Yes, the English international scores goals if he comes in, but how long this investment will pay off is the big question. United need to think long-term, and maybe Kane’s story should just be a memory.
