Man Utd set sights on two Bryan Mbeumo alternatives after huge Tottenham bid

Manchester United will not pay over the odds for Bryan Mbeumo after Tottenham entered the race for the Brentford forward and have other targets within the Premier League, it has emerged.

The Red Devils have been proactive in trying to strengthen their playing squad off the back of a horrendous 2024-25 campaign, signing Wolves' Matheus Cunha and making an early move for Mbeumo.

Their pursuit of the sought-after Cameroon star, 25, has been complicated by Tottenham, though, with Thomas Frank keen to make Mbeumo his marquee summer signing after swapping Brentford for Tottenham earlier this week.

Mirror Football revealed that Spurs have since tabled a bid worth £70million for the Bees talisman; a proposal which is significantly more than United's previous £55m offer.

And while Mbeumo wants to join Manchester United ahead of all others this summer, ESPN report that the club will not exceed a certain price point for the former Troyes man and that they have alternative targets in mind.

Eberechi Eze and Antoine Semenyo have both been linked to United already this summer and would come into the club's thinking if a deal for Mbeumo does evade them.

Eze, the Crystal Palace playmaker, is another player who has no shortage of admirers after punctuating another stellar season at Crystal Palace with a match-winning display in the FA Cup final.

It's understood that Eze has a £68m release clause in his contract at Selhurst Park, putting him in a similar price bracket as Cunha and Mbeumo.

Semenyo has also had a fine season, registering 11 goals and five assists in the Premier League. Intriguingly, the Ghana international is also of interest to Spurs.

Bournemouth are thought to value Semenyo at around £70m, though they may not need to cash in on another of their top-tier talents with Dean Huijsen already sold and Milos Kerkez and Illya Zabarnyi likely to follow in the coming weeks.

While United have alternative targets in mind, they are expected to try and push through a deal for Mbeumo given the player has made no secret of his desire to make the move.

United ranked among the Premier League's lowest scorers last term with only the bottom three and Everton failing to better their tally of 44 strikes.
