Zelenskyy loses his temper and demands more sanctions against Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for the implementation of new sanctions against Russia after a Russian drone strike killed nine civilians traveling in a minibus.
Local authorities confirmed that most of the victims were elderly women who had been evacuated from the town of Bilopillya, located in the Sumy region, which has been a frequent target of enemy attacks.
This devastating assault underscores the continued diplomatic deadlock between Ukraine and Russia over a potential ceasefire agreement. Delegations from both countries have held recent rounds of talks in Turkey, but no breakthrough has been achieved.
“All the deceased were civilians. And the Russians could not have failed to understand what kind of vehicle they were targeting. This was a deliberate killing of civilians,” Zelenskyy wrote on X.
“Pressure must be exerted on Russia to stop the killings. Without tougher sanctions, without stronger pressure, Russia will not seek real diplomacy,” he added.
The attack in Sumy comes amid reports that Russian diplomats are demanding a Ukrainian withdrawal from five regions as a precondition for negotiating an end to the conflict.
